Keep in Mind those Markings!

The Lineolated Parakeet is also known as the "Barred Parakeet", and that is for a reason! Keep in mind when selecting birds for breeding: good, strong barring is a selection trait (meaning each generation of breeding for stronger and more proper placed markings improves over time, so keep at it.) Use of the Greywing mutation in the line does have a tendency to weaken the quality of the markings and "skew them", so use conservatively if you plan to work in Greywing but wish to keep the normal barred birds in the clutch looking their best. Below is a photo of a dd turquoise (mauve) cock bird (cocks generally have stronger markings as a general rule) bred by winning exhibitor, judge and accomplished breeder Johan Kortenray of the Netherlands. With permission we edited the photo to show the standard we should be breeding toward, acknowledging that this is a goal, not often seen this perfect, so don't get discouraged! target-linnie-markings-jpeg.jpg
