Cranky about her cage.

Love My Linnie

Hatchling
Recently Toula has been making it difficult to clean her cage and clean and fill her food dish. When I clean her cage, she screeches and tries to bite my hand. I have to put her in a smaller travel cage until I’m done cleaning her cage. She’s not quite as aggressive with her food dish, but how can I stop this behavior before it gets worse? She’s a sweetheart except for when it comes to this. She’ll be 1 year old in a few days. Any advice? Thanks all!

Often times this behavior is hormonal and will pass in a few weeks. if not, it may be due to her protecting her space. You could try letting her out with a treat while you clean the cage.

Is the bird in your profile picture the bird in question? I ask as it appears to be a single factor greywing which can only be male. Males are quite temperamental in teenage/sexual maturity time.

No, he’s my first Linnie, Louie. He was a grey wing turquoise DNA tested male. I lost him to kidney disease a year ago last week. He was 8 years old and the joy of my life. Toula is the violet cobalt hen I got from you last December. She just turned 1 year old a few days ago. She’s gotten very possessive and protective of her cage. I was wondering if rearranging her perches and toys would help. I actually got her the Prevue hamster cage you recommended and it’s a great cage. She’s my little baby and I love her lots!

I am sorry for your loss. Louie because he was visual single factor greywing, he could only have been male. DNA not needed, but information about how to visually sex can be confusing or hard to find. I did post a few articles here trying to explain it easily for people. 8 isn't super old, but tends to be for greywings. I am not sure why, but genetics are suspected. Did he start to fail and the vet drew blood to conclude it was kidneys? Was it "renal failure"? High white blood cells can sometimes point to that. I lost a Lovebird 25 years ago to it. Nothing we could do, so it was hard. Hugs! One day you will meet again ♥
