    Cockatiels & Linnies

Linnies and cockatiels get along very well. they make great buddies but always supervise to be sure. budgies have a totally different personality and cannot be trusted to be alone with other species unsupervised. They are randomly aggressive when hormonal and can cause serious injury to other...

    Swings?

Mine don’t like to swing per se, but they like to play with the swings that have beads and things attached.

4 babies! A good problem to have, but I need guidance please.

Its safe at two weeks only if you’re an experienced hand feeder. But these babies are now 4/5 weeks old. Babies at this age are even difficult for an experienced hand feeder. They are right at the edge of weaning and would be refusing formula.

4 babies! A good problem to have, but I need guidance please.

Congratulations on the babies! They look good. Do you have a picture of the parents? All of the babies appear to be greywing. There’s no need to, and it would be unwise to ,take the babies away from the parents at this age. They would be extremely difficult to transition to handfeeding now...

    Nippy Youngster

Well that’s a good start! Keep doing those things! As far as fresh foods, even if they’ve been weaned on a good variety of them, sometimes they regress when sent to a new home. Keep offeing them daily anyway. Eventually they will decide to try them again.

    Nippy Youngster

Linnies rarely bite but when they do after they first come home it’s usually out of fear. Take it slow. great sign that he steps up nicely. After taking him out, let him explore on his own terms. He should start to fly back and forth to you if unclipped. Offer treats when he comes to you, apple...

    Checking on babies

Yes, I have 2 brinsea incubators. They are pricey but well worth the money. The larger one for the nursery and the smaller portable one for transport when I need it. I’ve been using them for the past 11 years with unfailing accuracy and reliability...

    Checking on babies

Agree with Eddie’s aviary above. And don’t hesitate to ask questions! I love that you’re doing your homework now before they start breeding so you’ll be ready!

    Moulting tips?

I’ve gotten some of mine used to a stiff toothbrush along with more frequent bathing. Helps with the hand shy few.

    Bathing

Room temp or lukewarm water is good. I keep the aviary at 65 or above and spray them weekly in those temps.

You’re absolutely right, they are awesome whether they are hand tame or not! So much fun to watch them play and fly. ❤️

    Sweet Potato

Raw is definitely not advised for the reason Eddie’s aviary listed. mine love it mashed or steamed. I use it in some treat recipes for them as well which I’ll post for you when I have a bit more time, soon

    Keeping linnies outdoors?

How many Linnie’s are you planning to put in it, and what dimensions are you considering?

    Water

If they weren’t exposed to bathing when young, it may take a while to get them used to it. It’s important to continue trying as it helps to keep their feathers healthy. Whether it’s a spray bottle or different kinds of dishes ( flat, round, oval, shallow, deeper, etc…in cage or out of cage)...

    Water

Some Linnie’s are like that. Try all of the above with the vacuum running. I know it’s odd but it triggers bathing desire in most Linnie’s. They think it’s a rainstorm coming or something. If it doesn’t work, keep trying, eventually they learn to love it. If it works, you won’t need the vacuum...
