    new bird transport- any tips?

Sorry I missed this message! I always recommend a box or smaller type transport cage that doesn't have wire in case they flap and get stuck, or bust a blood feather. They usually don't eat much more than spray millet in transport, so that plus a wedge of apple for hydration is great! How did it go?

    Baby Kingston

Kingston looks like he was plucked by the parents between the shoulders and below the tail. Should be grown back soon. Extra Protein helps.

Soooo cute! The sibling is a dark green, not a natural green. Is not greywing. Based on the turquoise brow, I'm thinking it may be a hen.

    Checking on babies

A fantastic brooder really is key. We have the "Bird Brooder 9.0" but you can get smaller ones for less $$. @LinnieGirl has a Brinsea I think. There are options out there. I have used a handful of different ones, my favorite before these were the cooler brooders great for travel in the car from...

What a cutie! Even though the same mutation, I bet they will be easy to tell apart. How exciting! Hemi will enjoy a new friend, as will you!

    Moulting tips?

That is a good tip! Some exhibitors use the toothbrush trick. Helpful to keep fingers away if someone is a little bitey. lol

That sure sounded as clear as a bell to me! I had one that used to say "thank you", and one that said "hi Marco". I have a client with one that says "pew pew pew". Super fun that you are getting him going early, that helps! I have found my males were better talkers.

    Bathing

Warm water opens the shaft, similar to human hair. I use room temperature water in winter (so that is 50-55 degree Fahrenheit water) and I use cold in summer. If I am prepping for a show, I use cold water with a little dash of apple cider vinegar. It seems to give them a little shine. It makes...

    Moulting tips?

To get rid of the pin feather shafts, I like to whittle them in my thumb and pointer finger with my nails on those fingers. I do this after the new feather has emerged enough that it is at least half out, as the shaft helps to push the feather up like a flower. It needs the shaft for that time...

    birdie buddies

Beautiful flock! I agree it is hard to keep just one! You are not alone with some non-bird people that don't understand us! It is fun to care for and watch animals, even if they don't interact with us.

    Sweet Potato

Sweet Potato is great as it is high in Vitamin A, which is a vitamin parrots are often deficient in. So then there comes the confusing aspect.... is raw sweet potato safe and/or the best way to feed it? It is debated in the avian community. I always serve them cooked but yet are still firm. The...

    Bathing

My winter aviary is 50-52 degrees and I soak them daily. Warm and dry air is the enemy.

    Baby Hemingway

Linnies are difficult breeders. If you are home most of the day, Hemingway shouldn't feel the need for a friend if you decide against it. If you add one later, your bond with Hemi shouldn't be broken, but the introduction period will likely be longer and could be more difficult. Absolutely...

    Two sisters

When I am getting ready for a show, I soak them heavily 2x a day, and do 3 light sprays in between. After a few days, the water starts to roll off their backs like a duck. Then I know I can go to 2-3x a day light sprays. Nothing looks better than a tight feathered bird. It is a sign of health...

Fun cage setup! Be careful promoting the contact calling... it can become problematic. When the new buddy comes, that will likely go away as they will bond to each other enough to likely stop the concern of you going out of eye-sight . Speaking of.... how is that clutch coming? Have you thought...
