Hand feeding vs parent feeding vs coparenting

I too like to plan ahead... but I have learned in breeding that life doesn't always go according to plan. Having a brooder ready and up to temp, formula and supplies on hand is good measure. Try not to overthink it beyond that, and write again when you see what you are facing. Feeding frozen...

    Cuttlefish bone / mineral blocks

I too find Linnies almost never touch a cuttlebone. Not even egg laying females. Hence why I supplement with Calcivet. Helpful for males as well as it contains D3 that animals and humans are almost always deficient in. Calcium also helps the nervous system remain healthy. Goose does appear to...

    Very Toxic foods

I can't think of anything outside of the ones you mentioned that are concerning. That said, a cooked onion bite for example would not induce a major issue. Some people thing that asparagus is dangerous, but that one is safe. I feed mine tons fresh from the garden and they love chewing the stalks...

help with excessive vocalization and aggression

All that sounds like great progress! As the days lengthen, hormones are in abundance so that may explain the aggressiveness in the cage. I find if I move things around in there weekly, it helps. Rotating toys in and out at that point keep boredom at bay as well. As to vocalizing... is it...

    Food Quantities

Your diet sounds good, but I would focus your fresh on the high Vitamin A veggies most. Red, orange and yellow veggies are generally highest in this. You can google "high vitamin A vegatables" to get a list. Sweet potato (steamed), peppers, carrot, and beets (I go with golden over red in show...

Recommend Hand Feeding Formula for Linnie’s?

I used to use Kaytee, but switched as I didn't like how grainy it is. I have been using Tropican for the last 6 years and like it. I don't add anything to it, since it is designed as a complete growth food. I have heard about people adding peanut butter to formula to boost fat and protein, but I...

    Posting pics?

Have you tried pressing the image next to the chain link icon (it is a rectangle with an abstract mountain and sun image) and then it should give you the option to upload a picture there?

    Hemi & Kingston’s Ongoing Thread

So fun! Can you share with others what it was like having one vs two? I know you got a second quickly after, but if you were advising someone that is home a lot... was it easier to have a bond with one? Are they happier with two? Have any words of wisdom in case someone was pondering this? I had...

    How to Discourage Breeding Behaviors

Google "austerity diet". Not much you can do besides the recommendations listed, "throwing a leg over" is ok, but can signal they may lay. Keeping a nestbox, calcivet and dummy eggs on hand does wonders for reducing stress when an egg butt may appear.

    A bird named Goose.

If they clamp the foot, a gentle tap with your finger on the vent... they open them right up!

    A bird named Goose.

Don't seem to be hooking yet, so you could wait a bit.... that said... if you take them back now, less likely the quicks grow and you can keep them shorter on a longer timeline. Do you do them yourself?

help with excessive vocalization and aggression

Great picture! Apple sure is a favorite treat. Mine love a pomegranate cut in 1/8ths - foraging for those bright jewel seeds is a super fun activity!

    Eight Eggs!

I second your yay! You were smart to remove infertiles, or broken eggs. If you have some that don't look dark and rotten, I like to leave those, or add a few dummy eggs to help hold heat in the nest as well as prop up the little babies so they don't get squished under parents or larger babies...

    First Linnie Breeding - 4 chicks !

You are doing great, and the chicks look fantastic. As to the D3 and lights vs. supplementing.... True "full spectrum" lights aren't LED, and the ones that are lose their strength after about 6 months and are toxic waste. Expensive too. I ditched the full spectrum lamps about 6 years ago and...

    First Linnie Breeding - 4 chicks !

If the box works, make a note and maybe offer it again to them. Don't knock what is successful! Is it the one with the metal ring around the entrance? We sell a Linnie box we have custom made, 9"x 6"x 6"with the hole on one side of the length. Offers that same thing yours may have liked about...

Help with my budgie and linnie ?

I would take it out, replace with another toy (spiral straws, kabobs, balsa balls all favs) and rearrange the cage. Spray him to soaking wet daily, it really helps keep them busy preening. That time to focus on something else is helpful. You are not a bad momma! Sometimes we have to do the...

    Looking for an adult male

Bill is gone from Linnies. He had a lot of greywings. Try Pat Burke for a FL breeder? Her info is found on the LPS website.

Help with my budgie and linnie ?

Looks like a male to me if over 10-12 months old. Below is a pic of a female that is coming into a broody cycle (not my bird, copyright belongs to the poster HERE). If you have never seen any brown on the cere, I would say its a male. I also don't see white rings around the nostrils, a tell-tale...
